Study With Me!

When I teach, I work with my students to help them reach their personal goals. At the same time, I seek to expand their horizons and help them push the limits of what they think is possible; to think outside the box, to develop practice and performance techniques that work for them, and ultimately to be able to use music as a way to spread joy and tell stories to those around them. My goal is to help you or your child learn music and have fun, whatever that may mean to you.

I teach viola and violin, as well as piano. I also offer tutoring services in music theory/aural skills. No matter your age, or current skill level, I can help you grow as a musician. Whether you're an adult looking to learn an instrument for the first time, a passionate college student, or a high schooler studying for AP Music Theory, or anyone in between, I can help you grow as a musician.

Student Testimonials

A lesson with Noah is enjoyable and productive. He is a great teacher and fun to work with. He met me at my level and helped me to improve significantly and make noticeable progress even just from one weekly lesson to the next. He continually challenged me to take my playing one step further, helping me to improve more than I realized I could.

Josie - College Student and Violist

Noah is great at explaining and demonstrating concepts in a way that is easy to understand— and if I don’t understand, he is quick to try something new! He gives me practical ways to improve that include exercises, repertoire, and books. He is able to challenge me while also meeting me where I am. Noah is a very thoughtful teacher, both regarding learning my instrument and personally.

Gaia - High School Orchestra Director and Violinist

Noah is a great teacher. He helped with bowing as well as the songs.

Neil - 5th Grader and Violist

Noah is a very patient teacher who made a lovely connection with our 11 year old. He kept him focused and interested for a whole hour each time, making practice - previously a source of frustration - something fun he looked forward to and enjoyed. With Noah’s encouragement and instruction our son’s playing sounded much better and his confidence improved. Noah is professional, punctual, and dedicated, while still managing to keep things fun.

My Studio Policy

Studio Location:

John J. Cali School of Music

1 Normal Avenue, Montclair NJ

I teach in the Cali School of Music. Students will be informed as to which specific room at least fifteen minutes prior to the lesson. Convenient parking can be found in the Red Hawk Parking Deck, the Montclair Heights train station, or along Valley Road. All spots are a 5-10 minute walk to the Cali entrance. I am also willing to travel to your house or studio location to teach. However, this will incur an additional travel fee, determined on a case by case basis.

I teach at a rate of $60 per hour. Students/parents are expected to provide tuition at the end of each lesson (cash, venmo, or check). Shorter lesson lengths and compensation can be discussed as needed.

I provide instruction on a weekly, biweekly, or case by case basis, depending on the student’s needs. Once a meeting time is established, it is the responsibility of both myself and the student/parent to report conflicts as soon as possible. I will reschedule as I am able.

Parents are asked not to be present while I am instructing. However, they may come in at the end of the lesson for a debrief and to help set practice goals for the week. Parents may be asked to play a role in their student’s practicing. They also may not be. I ask that they respect my judgement in such cases.

I provide specific practice plans every lesson, accompanied by notes/videos taken by myself and/or the student to clarify instructions during individual practice.

Students are expected to practice according to the goals and plans set in each lesson. Each lesson will generally begin with a discussion of how the previous week’s practice went. I understand that life sometimes gets in the way; the occasional busy week or lack of time to practice does not necessitate skipping a lesson. However, if this should become a trend, it will necessitate a re-evaluation of the student’s goals.

Lessons may include general music instruction (music theory, aural skills), intended to develop fundamental skills not involving the instrument. The work done in this regard will be decided according to each student’s needs. Developing one’s internal pulse and pitch sense are essential towards making progress on an instrument.

Learning a musical instrument, whether just for fun, or with the intention of becoming a professional, or anywhere in between, is an endeavor that requires immense dedication. It is also one of the most rewarding and expressive activities one can engage in. I hope to share this joy with my students, and bring out the potential I see in each of them.

Let me know if you have any questions about my policy. I am flexible, and willing to work with you to make learning music possible for you or your child. I look forward to meeting you!
